Finding Your Fun & Fitness Fix! Open & Get The Top 10 Ways To Have a Laugh AND Get More Active

Hi Reader,

This week "Let Me Entertain You!" with inspirational activity:

I am hoping that in 5 minutes time you find yourself thinking "yeah, that would be fun" about being more active and moving your body.

I just spent my holiday in Tresco walking, biking, swimming and then a 2nd holiday in the Lakes hiking for cake! It got me thinking about how exercise is fun when increasing fitness is not the main purpose - so let's focus on what could be fun for you?

Let increased fitness be the by-product. Fun & Exercise can go together like PB&J but it's best to get dialled in to what's going to suit you, just like TV - What's your Jam?

So in this week's Weekly Habit there is inspirational energy from two Superfans on the podcast 'Pickleball People'. I break down why Pickleball is fun and so popular.

Then you can figure out what element inspires you and go find your own joyful new activity with This Week's Blog post 'Finding Your Fun & Fitness Fix" The Blog has the Top 10 Fun Ways To Getting More Active & Increasing Your Fitness.

Do remember how good it will feel to share this content (Link to Sign Up page) with anyone whose health you care about and let the Health Habits Ripple-Effect Happen (mexican wave style :) ...Let's begin!

1. Why Is Pickleball So Much Fun?

This fantastic new exercise activity is taking the fitness world by storm. It's fun, it's social, and it's incredibly easy to get started.

"Anyone, Any Age, Any Ability Can Play Pickleball. In 20 Minutes You Will Think - Yes! I Can Do This"

Nic, Co-Founder of Pickleball People

1st - Listen in to the podcast episode 'Pickleball People' - The Ultimate Fun, Fitness Fix. On Court With Founder Nic & Pickleball Superfan Ian.

I joined one of my local tennis friends Nic who has jointly set up a company 'Pickleball People' that organises Pickleball Classes for all, across Staffs in the UK. A Saturday morning in September, I attended one of her local Pickleball classes and experienced this fun exercise for the first time.

I had a Blast! Loads of fun, loads of bloopers and I encourage anyone looking to have a laugh (& get active to give it a go).

Listen in, get inspired and make sure to listen to the end of the Podcast episode when Nic & Ian share what Health Is... and means to them and their personal Health Habits that keep them ticking over nicely :)

"All I Have To Say Is That Pickleball Is A Top Health Habit!"

As I always like to apply my Health Habits learning for the benefit of all my community - I started thinking beyond Pickleball to How We Can Harness The Power Of Fun To Get Us To Be More Active?

What Makes Pickleball So Much Fun?

1.It's So Accessible - Anyone, Any Age, any ability can Play Together. You don't get separated.

2. It's Social & You Easily Make Friends - Guaranteed Laughing :)

3. It's Active but the smaller court means it doesn't have to be physically demanding - It Uplifts - But You Finish Uplifted not Exhausted.

4. Minimal Equipment, Technique, Experience Required - Zero Barriers to Getting started. It's an Equality Sport

5. It's Weatherproofed! Indoor/Outdoor Courts - can play & Active Fun Year Round

6. Low-Impact: Less Strain on the joints, less post-play stiffness & Less Injury.

7. A Growing Community - Become a part of the camaraderie of this new passionate tribe of Pickleball Players.

Take a look at these 7 reasons and think about which of them appeal to you as a 'Positive' reason to go try an activity and then consider other activities you could do that will give you the same 'Positive Factor'?

This week's blog article on Fun Fitness then combines all my life experience, professional coaching and the learning from looking at WHY? Pickleball is so much fun - together I cam up with this Top 10 of the most fun ways to add activity in midlife.

Top 10 Of The Most Fun Ways To Get More Active In Midlife:

1.Dancing- September is Strictly Time! Salsa, Line, Ballroom, Swing, Zumba or a Rave? Get Dancing & Keep dancing. Community Centres, village halls, social events, A Gym or Travel eg Cruise Dancing. Remember you can always begin your dancing journey with being a spectator but do go along live so you’re actively participating.

2. Outdoorsy Nature - Fall Foliage, Lakes, Views and Quiet Time. Whether you take a paved path around a flat 20 minute pool or a hike. Or maybe just go Fly a Kite!

Get Outdoors and raise the Fun Factor by taking a Cable Car, Ski Lift Up, Wildlife Trails or Foraging Forays. Link HERE for a previous blog on Nature & Plant Health Habits.

3. Swimming - Splashing and Weightless Is Fun. Whether you are into the idea of Wild Swimming, Aquacise or Water Physio at your local pool or plan your next vacation to include some swimming opportunities - Beach, Swimming Pool, Lake

4. Walk & Talk - So Social, easy and Fun. Check out a previous Podcast Episode where my guest expert gives some great tips on this. Link HERE to previous Podcast Episode on getting more active.

5. Bike Adventures - There are groups that are specifically designed to get people who haven’t ridden a bike in years ‘Get Back On Yer Bike’. But whether thats getting on the road or maybe getting a stationary Bike for your sitting room for when you watch TV. A Peloton to get competitive or hiring an Electric Bike and getting in the saddle, enjoy the ride without getting exhausted.

6. Get Competitive! - Bowling, Tennis, Cycling & Bridge are all competitive social leagues locally available near you. Some of us like a bit of competition to get us motivated to go along, try our best and see if we can get better over time. If this ‘positive’ could motivate you more think of activities you would enjoy that are competitive as well.

7. Seek The Steadier Version! - Others of us are put off by all that competitive speed. If so, what about a Walking Version of the Team Sport you used to love when you were younger? How about Walking Football? Walking Netball? Golf?

8. Gardening - Digging, Mulching, Fall Clean Up. I have always seen my garden as an opportunity to get active whilst doing some good, fun & productive. Also I love that you can involve the whole family (or neighbours). From Grandkids to Grandma’s Gardening together is a great fun option for increasing activity.

9. Volunteering - A personal Favorite! If you volunteer you will improve your health, wellbeing sense of purpose & contribution. It’s a massively helpful Health Habit. You can connect with whatever leisure or charity or concern that’s important to you and that makes it a sustainable Health Habit. Eg An environmental clean-up, local community garden or project, holiday volunteering such as coat drives and entertaining people in isolation such as hospitals, care homes and shelters.

10. Travel Escapes - Near and Far are many active adventures waiting. You can look for ways to do more active things on your next holiday. Book on an Activity Based Tour, Do a Short City Break (lots of steps around museums), Sightseeing etc Exploring your local home towns & Country is always an Active thing.

Maybe you could inspire yourself for by combining your adventure travel with a sporting fixture. I loved watching football in Milan, Horse Racing in France, Thai Boxing in Bangkok, Tennis In USA, Sheep Racing at my local Family Farm and next year I’d love to go to a Highland Games and Toss a Caber!

Final Fun Word

I really believe that everyone has a way of having a laugh AND moving your body at the same time. I think as we age we often slow down over time and this leads to a disconnect between us as human beings and moving our body as a regular daily thing. As a FUN THING.

But YOU are NEVER TOO OLD and It’s NEVER TOO LATE and there is a whole lotta fun out there that you could be having.

Figure out what's fun for you about an activity and then use the Top 10 above to get inspired and go schedule, go book yourself in. The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll be having a laugh and wondering why you didn’t do it earlier.

I hope you feel like you now know what Activities are Fun for You and What to Go Book Today
