Mastering Your Morning Routine

On Your Marks - Get Set... It's time for us all to get into our Morning Routines and Health Habits Combo!

A Fabulous Conversation awaits with Christine Schroeter, a Health & Happiness Coach and University Professor in Health Economics, from California and founder of HelloHappyNest.com

In this episode of the Health Habits Coach Podcast, Listen HERE we sit down with Christine and talk about why a morning routine is such a good idea?

Christine shares her own expert insights and personal experiences to help you understand the profound impact of morning routines for your productivity, efficiency & energy.

We also explore some practical strategies around getting those morning habits up and running. Christine talks about the roles of Structure, Consistency, Routine-Reinforcement to facilitate a Habit Loop - put a few habits together and you have your Morning Routine - Yay!!

In the episode, I contributed these main phases a person goes through when building habits into a routine:

  • Repetition - Otherwise it stays as a 1-off Action
  • Practice - Conscious attention on your new habit creates Iterative Learning - making it more effective & stronger
  • Consistency - Reduces resistance to anything new by your mind & you go from feeling negatives to seeing the positive
  • Commitment - Rewards & Pleasure as you transition to feeling inwardly connected to this habit you've built

Christine gave great advice around overcome morning motivation challenges like getting out of bed ...nearly all of us experience this one...aaargh! But here's a strategic solution to get you up:

  1. Get a Full Night of Rest
  2. Put Your Alarm Clock Across The Room
  3. Figure Out Something That Brings Joy 1st thing? (slippers by your bed, a good morning hug, a special face wash...)

Christine provides this actionable advice on creating a morning routine and keeping it going, whatever you're specific goals may be:

  • Reward Yourself - find a way to self-reward
  • Create an Order of Events for the Routine
  • Track Your Progress
  • Personalise the Routine to You
  • Visualise Success

I then give an additional bit of coaching around Reverse-Engineering your Morning Routine. As most of us need to manage to do all our habits in our morning routine to a set timeline. If you want to leave on time - you got to get up on time!

"If you can't change anything about your current routine and want to add a new habit that takes Eg 30 min...You'll need to go to bed/getup 30 min earlier"

3 x Mega Morning Routines

This week's blog 'Mega Mornings' gives you some inspiration to go Habit-Shopping for your personalised Morning Routine. It's time to get into action - choose a couple of these lovely A.M. habits and get into doing it as simply as 1...2...3...

1. A Billionaire's Morning

  • Get up super-early (think 4...5...6am yikes!)
  • Meditation (set your mind for Brilliance today)
  • Vigorous Exercise (Give it your all and get a Sweat On)
  • Fluids & Protein (Replace & Replenish for a strong day ahead)
  • Schedule Your Day By What's Important - Not What's Urgent (Time is your most precious resource, spend it wisely)

2. A Connected Human's Morning

  • Wake up Circadian Rhythm & Ayurvedic Clock (6am-10am is Kapha time for movement & hygiene). Chronobiology - Seasonal & personal differences but how the day/night dark/light deeply affect physiology.
  • Breathe Outside Air, feel the Natural Light of the Universe
  • Journal to connect your sub-conscious to your day, allow your dreams to manifest into your life
  • Gentle movement to awaken your day (QiGong, Yoga, Sun Salutation - greet your day)
  • Nourish Your Body - hydration and nutrition that is warm, healing, kind

3. Healthista's 5 To Thrive Morning

  • Rise An Hour Early (compared to previous)
  • Hydrate (Set up water bottles & tea flasks for the day)
  • Active Exercise (try for 30 min minimum incl some cardio walk, run, bike, swim etc)
  • Healthy Nutrition (think colourful, natural & lots of vitamins, nutrients and powerfoods. Eg A Green juice, Egg Whites & spinach)
  • Gratitude Journal - Building Positive Mental Health by practicing gratitude, life is plentiful, abundance mindset.

There's a myriad of ways to build your own personalised Health Habits into your morning routine. I hope these inspire you towards or against certain identities - that helps you become of aware of what YOU LIKE. Because that's all that matters.

Remember ATTENTION leads to INTENTION which will bring about ACTION.

So just have a think, make a plan and get started with 1 or 2 of these ideas.
