1. The Beautiful Symphony of Nature

This week on The health Habits Podcast: 'Nature's Symphony': Feeling Bathed in Forest, Sound and Somatic Healing With Wellness Expert Emma Bradbury-Jones.- LISTEN HERE

On this week's podcast is a uniquely talented Wellness Expert - Emma Bradbury Jones. Emma shares with us all, wisdom from over 2 decades of being immersed as a wellness practitioner across an array of therapeutic modalities.

We hear of Emma's river journey through life building her skill set to include different Yoga practices, Forest-Bathing, Sound Bathing, Somatic Healing & more.

Emma explores the reasons behind having a varied landscape of wellness practice; variety helps to develop Holistic Health using our senses:

  • Nature's experiences are a safe space, so they can take us into a place that's healing
  • We use the nature to make a 'Medical Nest' as we settle and open to receiving sound
  • Sound is about different brain wave states - targeting that meditative state where healing & deep rest takes place.
  • We're all made up of sound and our body & energy can shift towards the same frequency as our surroundings.
  • Connecting with your senses can be deeply relaxing, and help other Health Habits eg Sleep patterns

"Crossing the gateway into the forest, is a threshold moment; between modern day life & stress and a more tranquil, restful way of being"

Clare George

Emma describes how those that join her experiences in nature and with sound find connection through their immersion. That we save memories & moments and so sharing these senses amongst others helps amplify the personal meaning.

"Our Innate Senses are a 'Threshold of Connection' - when the music starts, when we step onto a yoga mat, when we open a gate into the wood..."

Emma Bradbury-Jones

Emma suggests not defining it too much, keeping your words & labels fluid so you can appreciate what your body needs in this present moment.

"Forest & Sound Bathing are an invitation, a way of tapping into our senses and finding out who am I?"

Emma Bradbury-Jones

A diverse group of people are in my community, finding their own personal enjoyment, through 1 or a combination of therapeutic practices.

From breathing in the smells of the woods to experiencing the sound of different instruments. These wellbeing modalities rely on practice and consistency, just like a health Habit; but with magical qualities interwoven into these rituals.

If you want to know a little more about the benefits of sound bathing check out this article from Medical News Today.

Do listen in to the end of the episode HERE , as Emma shares her 'Health Is...' and her personal favourite health habit, so you can get that little piece of her personal wisdom. The Podcast show notes have links to contacting Emma, or link to her website.

2. Holistic Health: The Mind, Body & Soul of Your Health Habits

This week's Blog article gets into The Health Habits Coach practice of understanding just What is Holistic Health? The different elements of your individual health. The good and bad bits of your Health Landscape and how you experience them.

My two Masters (MSc Social Development Mgmt & MSc Health Psychology) taught me alot about mapping our thoughts, choices, decisions, habits and the outcomes or experiences that ultimately make up how you feel?

"Holistic Health Is...A Complete State of Physical, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing & Balance"

Emma Bradbury-Jones underpinned by WHO

So if you want to understand your health from a holistic health standpoint - You need to question How You Feel & What's Going On?

Across your Physical, Mental, Social & Spiritual Health (the 4th spiritual dimension of health was added to the World Health Organisation Quality of Life assessment - see more on the WHOQOL test HERE)

The 4 Core Health Quadrants:

  1. Physical Health - Pain, Strength, Tiredness, Concentration, Sleep, Access to Health Care, Unhealthy habits
  2. Mental Health - Worry, Fear, Stress, Relax, Joy, Satisfied
  3. Social Health - Relationships, Engaging, Communication, Happy, Home, Work, Family
  4. Spiritual Health - Purpose, Meaning, Empathy, Compassion, Contribution, Future, Hope, Faith

But holistic health is more than these 4 quadrants because they stay high up across the general population. As individual's we experience our health in a personalised way - in our day to day life.

It's our personalised collection of habits that we have curated that lead to our experience of our health - hence The Health Habits Coach.

If I want to help you improve your health, it's not just about what you eat or how much sleep you get (though important key aspects). Your health is more than the sum of it's parts - it's an experience - it's holistic.

What habits make up our experience of our health? That comes down to exploring your health spheres of influence:

Your Health Spheres Of Influence:

This is an incredible tool - use it to better understand Your Health Landscape and the Good, Bad & Ugly of Your Health Habits.

Then you can go after your Holistic Health ...one habit at a time!
