1. From Stressed To Serene: Ditching Your Stress-Inducing Habits For A Life of Zen

The blog post 'From Stressed To Serene' Full Article HERE - gets to the source of your stress. What habits, behaviours, decisions and choices you make that lead to increased or decreased stress for you that then impact your health and life?

It's all about swimming up stream to getting to the root of our stress - because with all Health Matters prevention is better than cure.

"Health problem prevention always comes down to our daily Lifestyle Health Habits"

Clare George

So to reduce & remove stress we need to consider How We Enable Stress to exist in our lives?

"Stress Doesn't Just Walk Into Your Life... You Either Create It...Invite It OR Associate With It"

Unknown

5 of The Biggest Habits That Create, Invite or Associate Stress In Your Life

1. Overcommitting Your Resources

We all have different resources, but our CORE RESOURCES are TIME, ENERGY & MONEY.

Stress is all about the balance between our Life’s demands and our ability to meet those demands by using these Core Resources.

The less you have of time, money or energy - the less you have to spend (can agree to doing) before you are maxing out and feeling too much pressure.

2. Scatter-Gunning Your Resources

Having no strategy, not being focused or targeted will result in ‘scatter gunning’ and this means you never build momentum from your hard early efforts.

Leaving you feeling like you are spinning so many plates, stuck at the start with everything and like any effort is pointless.

3. Not Accepting, Offering or Asking For Help

This is all about whether your Life Load is all on your shoulders or is it shared? What's your help seeking behaviour like at Work, in relationships, running your home - Who Is Responsible For What?

How much time, energy & money do you have left to spend after your commitments & responsibilities?

Help from others is the best way to top up your resource levels.

Not being willing to accept, offer or ask for help, is the single biggest Bad Health Habit for all-cause stress.

4. Frequently Thinking or Actioning ‘I Should’

‘I Should’ leads to a life lived trying to meet other peoples standards and rules.

“I Could Vs I Should is like…
Thinking Your Rules Vs Their Rules”

Clare George

Research shows that freedom of choice and autonomy: work, relationships, homes, diets etc - is key driver in how much stress & happiness we feel in our different ‘places’.

Consider where and when you are banging the beat of your own drum & when you dance to the beat of someone else's?

Spending too much of your resources on other peoples rules and agendas will likely increase your sense of stress & dissatisfaction.

5. Running On Empty In A Functioning Way

Never refilling your tank - like permanently driving your car with the gas light on - is a major cause of chronic stress and will inevitably lead to burnout.

“Subsistence Stress is the worst because it's functioning, but chronically bad for your health - You Need To Stop Your Car, Pull Over & Fill Your Tank"

Clare George

2. How D'ya Put Out A Burnout Bonfire?

To listen to the Podcast episode, link HERE ; where Clare gives lots of real life examples of the different stress related Habits that lead to Burnout and the best framework for getting your health & life back on track ASAP.

Sometimes, we ignore red flags like feeling tired when you would normally be pretty good. Being a bit cranky (more than usual in midlife!). Maybe running low looks like worry that becomes more intense and means you procrastinate.

Most likely though, before a Burnout phase gets underway - you get those Gut Instincts that you're kinda spent, "we're done here".

It's that loss of control that makes it feel more like an emergency and once your Health Landscape feels on fire - you need to put that FIRE OUT 1st before you can go over the wreckage and figure out why and how to prevent it happening again.

So How D'ya Put Out A Burn-Out Bonfire?

1. Connect (Practical Support)

Get Help with your problem/s. If your house is on fire you call 999. So who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters?...

Calling is Connecting and that's Sharing the Problem and pulling in positive energy into your chaos. Lower your stress hormone Cortisol with the help of another's clear mind and level perspective.

You are the cat in the tree - you need someone to come pick you up and help you down. Whatever pushed you over the edge is a good place to start.

2. Calm (Emotional Support)

Find A Neighbour, Friend, Family that is warm, kind & positive to be around. Now the initial emergency alert has been responded to, you need to try to be near someone who will be nurturing and caring.

This will increase Oxytocin (love & connection hormone) and help you breathe, see that your world is safe.

3. Laugh (Distraction)

Think about something else. Laughter is the best medicine for stress & overwhelm. It builds perspective and releases endorphins (happy hormone).

4. Soothe (Re-Balance)

Self-Soothing is a skill we teach our babies but have you ever worked on this skillset as an adult?

Use your in-built senses around touch, smell, sound, taste to re-balance your world. Seek a therapy and feel like you've created a sense of order and calm from what was chaotic and frenetic.

Now is the time to focus, restore and rejuvenate to manifest some zen, bringing serenity and peace under your feet.

A Serene Conclusion

Stress & Burn Out are very personal health issues and this means complexity and multiple factors at play in your sources of stress.

Figure out what's working & not working for you and then use the Prevention Habits above to change the course of your river of life.

That said, for most of us there are still events or seasons that topple even our best well-laid plans. So having a sense of who could be an emergency responder in your life is a smart, strategic health move.

If you want to nurture a more zen life building self-soothing skills are a loving form of self-care habits. Self-soothing after the storm, will foster calm resilience, a hallmark of a Zen nature for Peaceful Serenity.
